Marriott's New MegaMile Offer: 2,000 Miles Per Stay

Posted by Tim Winship on January 04, 2012

Last year's MegaMiles offer from Marriott was triple airline miles for two or more stays.

This year, instead of tripling the miles, Marriott is offering a flat mileage bonus.

Offer Details

Between January 1 and April 30, Marriott Rewards members can earn 2,000 bonus airline miles for the second and subsequent stays, up to a maximum of 50,000 bonus miles during the promotion.

To receive the bonus miles, you must first elect to earn miles for your stays and choose an airline program. Among the program options: those of British Airways, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Southwest, United, US Airways, and Virgin America. American is not on the list—they're no longer a Marriott Rewards partner.

Registration is required.

Deal or No Deal

In most airline programs, Marriott Rewards members can earn two miles per $1 spent at JW Marriott, Autograph Collection, Renaissance, Marriott, Marriott Vacation Club, Ritz-Carlton, and EDITION hotels; one mile per $1 spent at Courtyard by Marriott, AC Hotels by Marriott, Fairfield Inn & Suites, SpringHill Suites, Residence Inn, and TownePlace Suites hotels.

So, for example, two one-night stays at $150-a-night properties would earn either 600 or 300 base miles. A 2,000-point bonus on two stays that would normally earn just 600 miles is a hefty one.

The generous four-month window to earn the bonus miles is a plus, as is the 50,000-mile maximum, which shouldn't interfere with many travelers' ability to earn as many miles as possible.

While this offer is worth a look, especially for dedicated mileage-earners, all major hotel chains have or will have competing promotions in place for the same time period. And Marriott's own MegaBonus promotion—a free night at a Category 1 - 4 hotel after two stays—will be in effect between February 1 and April 30.

Comparison shopping is a must. Which is to say, it's a good time to be booking hotel stays.
