Get Texts to Get 500 Priority Club Bonus Points

"Easy" miles and points? Those are the ones you earn for little or no extra effort, for no extra cost.

Recent examples include American's bonus for signing up to receive email notices, and Hawaiian Airlines' bonus for following @HawaiianMiles, the Twitter channel for the airline's loyalty program.

In both cases, a modest bonus is offered for doing next to nothing.

This new offer from Priority Club features a similar combination, but with an additional element that may disqualify it from the "easy" category.

Offer Details

Through October 15, Priority Club Rewards members can earn 500 bonus points by signing up for On the Go to receive up to three offers per week sent to their text-enabled cell phones.

Participation requires a valid Visa card.

According to the offer's landing page, enrolling takes less than five minutes, so you're earning 100 points per minute.

Deal or No Deal

So, are these easy miles?

They are, if:

  • You already have a Visa card in your wallet.
  • You have a text-enabled mobile phone.
  • You don't mind receiving "exclusive offers" on your cell phone.

For many, what likely separates this promotion from the above-mentioned offers from American and Hawaiian is the intrusiveness of text messages pushed to one's cell phone, versus emails and Tweets, which are more easily ignored.

To mitigate that concern, the offer promises "You can opt out at any time." To do so, reply to any Priority Club text message with "OFFERS STOP."

Now, wasn't that easy?

I think I will pass on this offer because you won't even get your measly 500 points for up to six weeks, and I have a phone that charges me 20 cents for each message I make or receive, so these 500 points could easily cost me $4 or more. I am afraid if I opt out very soon maybe I won't get the 500 points four to six weeks later.

Also, here is some more information why they want your Visa card number:

MESSAGING OVERVIEW

Maximum number of SMS messages sent per week: 3

Triggers that may be used for this Program include:

where you use your enrolled Visa card to make a purchase, which may be at a physical store or online
the type of merchant where you make a purchase with your enrolled Visa card
purchases at the Merchant and its affiliated brands
time of day of your transaction
transaction count
transaction amount
profile information

Based on your preferences, you will receive offers and messages through digital channels including mobile, email, website and additional channels you choose as they become available (additional channels may be subject to applicable terms and conditions).

I finally found where it mentioned getting the 500 bonus points. It is at the very bottom of the On The Go page under terms and conditions:

Program Terms and Conditions:

To participate in Priority Club Rewards On the Go and receive 500 Priority Club points you must: (i) be a Priority Club® Rewards member; (ii) enroll in advance in Priority Club Rewards On the Go using an eligible Visa card; and (iii) include your valid Priority Club Rewards member number during your enrollment in Priority Club Rewards On the Go. Bonus Priority Club points will be deposited to the enrolled member's Priority Club Rewards account within 4 - 6 weeks after successful enrollment in Priority Club Rewards On the Go. Limit one (1) set of 500 Bonus Points per Priority Club Rewards member. Offer expires 10.15.11 and enrollment in Priority Club Rewards On the Go must be completed by 11:59 PM PT on 10.15.11. Void where prohibited. Miles earners will receive Priority Club points for this promotion.

I am not sure why they need your Visa but I think it may be because they want to send you messages based on your usage habits on your Visa card, but I am not sure.

It is strange that no where on the On The Go page from Priority Rewards does it make any mention that you will receive 500 bonus points? Where exactly is this 500 bonus points for signing up for text offer located?

I signed up for the offer and it said it sent a three-digit code as a text message to my phone. I never received the code and yes, my phone has text messaging enabled. I clicked to have the three-digit confirmation code resent but still I received no text message with the code.

Has anyone tried this? Did it work for you? How long after you signed up did you get the text message with the code to confirm? How long after you signed up did it take for the 500 points to be credited to your Priority Rewards account?

Why do they need our visa?
